Storage Planner
Turn your bins and boxes into the exact number of shelf units, linear feet of shelving, and floor space — before you buy a single unit.
Count the bins and boxes you need to store, pick the bin size that matches yours, and choose the shelf depth you have room for. The planner returns how many standard shelf units to buy, the linear feet of shelf surface, and the floor space the units occupy against the wall.
Add 15–20% headroom so your storage plan survives the next round of decluttering, and lay the units out against a wall in the Room Planner.
FAQ
- How does the planner estimate shelf units?
- Everything converts to cubic feet — bins by size class, boxes at about 3 ft³ each — then divides by the usable capacity of one standard 36-inch-wide, 5-shelf unit at your chosen depth, rounded up to whole units.
- What shelf depth should I choose?
- 12-inch shelves suit pantries and light closets; 16-inch is the standard all-rounder; 24-inch deep shelving is for garages and basements with large totes. Deeper holds more but eats more floor space.
- Should I plan for extra capacity?
- Yes — storage needs grow. Add 15–20% headroom so you are not re-planning in a year. Round up a unit, or step up a depth class.
