Appliance Lifespan Tracker
Log every major appliance once and see what's healthy, what's aging, and what's overdue for replacement — so you can budget ahead instead of scrambling when something dies.
Most appliances die without warning — and a same-day emergency replacement almost always costs more than a planned one. This tracker fixes that. Log each major appliance with its install year (and warranty, if you have it), and the tool compares its age to its expected service life so you can see what's coming.
Appliances past about 75% of their expected life move to Aging — the right time to start setting money aside. Once they reach their expected life they're flagged Replace soon, your cue to shop deliberately rather than scramble. Pair it with the Maintenance Scheduler to extend each unit's life, and fold upcoming replacements into a Renovation Budget.
FAQ
- How long do home appliances last?
- Industry averages: refrigerators ~13 years, dishwashers ~9, washing machines ~10, dryers ~13, ranges/ovens ~15, microwaves ~9, water heaters ~10, furnaces ~18, and A/C condensers ~15. These are planning averages — maintenance, water hardness, and usage shift them.
- What do the health labels mean?
- Healthy is under 75% of expected life. Aging is 75–99% — start budgeting for a replacement. Replace soon means the appliance has reached or passed its expected service life, so a failure is increasingly likely.
- Is my data saved anywhere?
- Only in your browser's local storage. There's no account and nothing leaves your device. Clearing your browser data removes the list. Use Print / PDF to keep a copy.
- Should I replace an appliance the moment it's 'overdue'?
- Not necessarily. A well-maintained unit can run well past its average. Treat 'replace soon' as a prompt to budget and watch for warning signs (rising energy bills, repeated repairs, performance drop), and to avoid an emergency replacement at full price.
